Scan A Beam is a light scanner designed to sweep light across your subject. Using a combination of diffusers the scanner can be used to light up a single matchstick, right through to an entire tree.
Diffusers have been developed to be installed easily and produce a soft delicate light - perfect for long exposure portrait work.

Scan A Beam has been designed to attach to your existing torch, so you're not buying a new expensive light source just to start scanning.
Adaptor kit supplied
Using our selector, you choose three adaptors, these are supplied with the kit. A custom adaptor can also be made for you.

Choose the setup that suits distance, portraits, scenes or close-up work — The combination of diffusers gives a great variation of light.

Every Scan A Beam ships with the unique dome and a front diffuser — giving you flexible control from distance scene work, through to portraits, and close-up scanning, all using the same torch.

Meet the gates
Gates are a front attachment for Scan A Beam that open and close, giving you a way to meter the light output to suit your subject. Like traditional barn doors on a studio light but with finer adjustment.
Close them down for a tight, contained beam on small subjects. Open them up for broad, even coverage across the whole subject — With the Gates it's possible to create a beam of light as thin as a match using a standard torch.

Three steps to a clean scan
Choose your setup
Fit your torch's adaptor, then choose the diffuser setup — add the gates if you want additional light control.
Scan the light
Start a long exposure and manually sweep the beam across your subject evenly — Scan speed and distance changes the amount of light captured.
Meter with the gates
Using the Gates for up close work allows control of the beam width. Open or close the gates to dial output up or down — wide and even, or narrow and contained, all using your torch.

Adaptors suit torch head diameters from 25mm – 38mm.
